Notice the Birds

Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds! Luke 12:24

During this time of unprecedented pandemic, it has amazed me that the wild animals aren’t aware that things are different. The birds sing, the squirrels play, and the deer munch on shoots of grass; they are oblivious to what is going on, while we live a life filled with worry and fear. As I pondered their miraculous day-to-day activities, these verses rang true: “Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns for God feeds them. And you are more valuable to him than any birds. Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” Let us remember that God cares for us more than any of the birds and knows our current needs. In fact, He said “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else and he will give you everything you need. So, don’t worry little flock, for it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom” (Luke 12:31-32). Today, as you wait for this time to pass, open your window or take a walk and listen for the birds singing. Let their song fill you with joy as you remember God loves them, but He loves you more. Take heart, for He is with you today.

Oh, Lord, these days are hard. Forgive me when I worry and help me to remember that you will provide for all of my needs. Make me aware of the joyous bird-song so that my heart can join them in singing your praises.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen
